Behind The Scenes: Mrs. Voorhees And The Part 3 Dream Sequence
Fans have debated the use of Mrs. Voorhees in the jump scare near the end of Friday The 13th Part 3 for decades. Indeed it seemed to be a generic attempt to recapture the magic of the original 1980 film, but the fact that Mrs. Voorhees was used with her head reattached made no sense in the short history of the series at that time.
Marilyn Poucher went uncredited in the role of Pamela Voorhees for the film, but she endured just as much makeup and prostetics work as other actors in the film. In fact, her time in the effects artist's chair would come close to Jason Voorhees actor Richard Brooker. The complex appliances used to create a rotting Mrs. Voorhees were impressive. However, the short screen time for the character did not properly show off the detailed work of the effects artists.
Below are behind the scenes photos of Marilyn during her makeup sessions. As you can see, she definitely went through a long process to appear in the film. One image below shows the crew preparing to shoot the dream sequence with a very wet and tired Marilyn getting ready to lunge out at Dana. Also appearing in the photos with Marilyn are Director Steve Miner and Final Girl Dana Kimmel.
