Prop Butcher Knife From 'Friday The 13th Part 7: The New Blood'
Friday The 13th Part 7: The New Blood is a true fan favorite of the franchise due to the excellent rendition of Jason Voorhees portrayed on screen by Kane Hodder and the effects work of Magical Media Industries, spearheaded by director John Carl Buechler. There are a number of standout scenes in the film, and one in particular always gets fans cheering when it occurs.
When party-goer David goes into the dark kitchen to get something to eat, lightning flashes outside creating a brief glimpse of the entire room. It is at that point we see Jason hiding in the corner, holding a butcher knife, waiting to attack. Although the end result of the death is quite dull compared to others in the film, the overall scene is fun and today we have a new prop to show fans from The New Blood.
A photos of the prop butcher knife was posted at the Friday The 13th Props Museum Facebook Page recently for which our readers will notice the blade was unusually silver in color. The F/X crew of Friday The 13th Part 7 painted the blade silver in color for visual reasons. During the night shooting of the scene the silver color made it easier for the cameras to catch the knife on film rather than the original chrome coloring.
A fun fact about the knife is that it was later re-used during the production of the movie HALLOWEEN 4: The Return of Michael Myers. The knife was sent from propmaster Batia Grafka since the same effects company worked on Halloween 4 as well.
