Derek Mears Cast As New Swamp Thing For DC Universe Streaming Service
Derek Mears is beloved by the Friday The 13th community. His spectacular portrayal of Jason Voorhees in Friday The 13th 2009 is celebrated by fans of the franchise and he is a genuine nice guy with comedic chops to boot. Derek has been able to play some great characters on-screen in recent years like Jason as well as an original Predator in the film Predators. With that in mind, today's news makes me extremely happy as per Slash Report, Derek has been tapped to play the Swamp Thing in the DC Universe's new show of the same name.
As a huge fan of Wes Craven's film growing up, I have high hopes for this show especially knowing that the showrunners are going for a mature audience. The DC Universe streaming service goes live this weekend and Swamp Thing will debut in 2019. Congrats to Derek for landing another awesome role!
“Swamp Thing” centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
