Ranking The Franchise: Top 3 Best Death Scenes Of 'Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday'
Our Ranking The Franchise series continues today as we have decided to put together our Top 3 Best death scenes in Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday! This was a hard list to put together as there are so many gory and memorable scenes where Jason dispatches his victims. Our readers may or may not agree with our rankings, but the ninth film in the franchise contains a number of infamous death scenes that could be ranked higher than what we have listed below.
3. Vickie Becomes Robert's Main Squeeze
For those readers that have been following my writing for the last decade, it is well known that Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday is one of my favorite films in the franchise. Let it also be known that I am a franchise purist at heart and hold the original film on a large pedestal. The switch in tone to a mythology story was seriously needed for a ninth film release in fourteen years and to honor the older Friday The 13th films, Jason Goes To Hell delivered the goods in deaths scenes and gore. To kick off the list, we start with a delightfully over the top scene complete with blood water fountain.
After the Jason Voorhees possessed body of Robert lays waste to the police station of Crystal Lake, he continues his pursuit of niece Jessica and her estranged boyfriend Steven to Joey B's diner. It is at the diner where it really hits the fan as Jessica wants to collect her daughter from her friend Vickie, but Jason has other plans. As the eccentric Joey B fights with Jessica about her baby, Jason (in the possessed body of Robert) attacks the patrons and employees of the diner making his way to Jessica. Her friend Vickie grabs a shotgun from behind the counter and shoots Jason in the leg to save Jessica from his grasp. After getting off another shot at his face, Vickie stabs Jason in the abdomen with a barbecue skewer. Jason grabs Vickie and pulls her onto the skewer and proceeds to crush her head with his bare hands while blood spits out of the top of her head!
2. Josh Becomes A Shell Of Himself
Josh is a deputy in the local Crystal Lake police force and leads quite the simple life. He does have a small problem, though, and that is he is having an affair with a married woman, and in Friday The 13th land, that makes him dead meat. Josh's death is quite unique in that he is one of the very few to be killed by Jason without being stabbed or skewered. As the rule of Jason hopping bodies goes in Jason Goes To Hell, the possessed bodies get diseased and weak to the point that Jason has to move onto the next vessel. Once Jason leaves a possessed body (In this case Josh), the body deteriorates into a mass of bio waste. Pretty disgusting stuff and why Josh's death ranks number two.
Jason (while in Josh's body) has successfully killed his sister Diana, but lost the opportunity to use her body to be reborn again. In a weakened state, he returns to the Voorhees house, and while there, tabloid news journalist Robert Campbell has arrived to start "dressing" the house for a special Case File story on Jason Voorhees and his family legacy. Apparently, Jason didn't like his plans for his former home and bursts into the main room of the house and attacks Robert. Jason throws Robert onto a table and transfers his evil soul from Josh's body to Robert's body. After the soul is transferred, Josh's body begins to deteriorate at a very rapid rate. His flesh melts off of his body while his intestines and other internal organs spill out on the floor.
This is by far one of the most gruesome death scenes in the entire franchise.
1. Camping Plus Premarital Sex Equals Split In Half
For a film chock full of awesome and gruesome deaths, it would take something pretty special to be the top death scene in Jason Goes To Hell. What better way to take the top spot than a classic camp death scene complete with killer point of view shots, a premarital sex romp in a tent, and a death that ends in a split body and a crushed head?
Our film's hero Steven is driving to meet his estranged girlfriend Jessica's mother Diana when he notices three teens hitchhiking on the side of the road. Of course, he picks them up and asks where they are headed. The three tell Steven they are going to the old, abandoned Camp Crystal Lake. Steve drops off the trio at the old camp and drives away to meet with Diana. Since the cabins have been torn down, the teens pitch a single tent for the night. After a late night skinny dip, Deborah and Luke retire to the tent for some extra curricular activity. The third camper, Alexis, crawls into her sleeping bag under the stars for sleep. In the distance, Jason (possessing the coroner's body) watches the camp from a distance and plots his bloody revenge. Alexis quickly realizes she has to relieve her bladder before settling in completely into her sleeping bag for the night. When finished going to the bathroom behind a tree, she walks cautiously back towards the camp fire and her sleeping bag when she is suddenly attacked and sliced in the face with a razor.
Meanwhile, Deborah and Luke begin having sex as Jason slowly starts walking toward the tent. He picks up a metal pole that is lying on the ground and just as Deborah begins to climax during sex, Jason shoves the metal pole through the outside of the tent and into Deborah's back and through her chest. Jason then violently rips the pole upwards, tearing Deborah's body in half. In the background you can hear Luke scream and then a loud crunch.
Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday is not your traditional Friday The 13th film, but it's foray into a mythology tale allowed for a much bloodier and fantastical film than had been made in the past. What do you think of this list of death scenes in the film? Would your list be different? Let us know in the comments below!
